This is the story of our family affair with Chuckle the Nordic Folkboat. 'CHUCKLE' is clinker built with Mahogany planks on Oak frames with Spruce spars. A classic wooden boat. She was built by Harry Feltham in Portsmouth in 1954, one year after the famous singlehanded transatlantic sailer Blondie Hasler had his Folkboat 'Jester' built in the same yard. Perhaps 'Chuckle' and 'Jester' are sisters?

What have we done!
The delicate job of splitting chuckle mast needed to be a family affair. Poor chuckle but her remade mast is going to be the biz.

Home from school
Fergus can not wait to change before he gets stuck in to some mast scraping. If only life was as straight forward as scraping off varnish.

Mast refurb or replace
Freyja and fergus have loved stripping the mast of all its wires lights and hardware. Busy like beavers they have done it all in no time at all.
Giving the mast a close inspection we find a crack at the partners and a pocked of rot under a cleat. Great its made of wood, now to cut it down its middle and see if its worth repairing with new scarfed on timber or weather we just make a new one.

Mast
It took some planning to get it home. Now i have to strip it of all and cut in half length ways and fix or make new. No small task. Will it be done in time for bit of new year sailing!
